Trapper - The man behind the C.A.V. - Article by Glenn Roberts / Motorcycle Mojo |

Posted May 3rd 2010
The riding season has come upon us and kitshop has made a few changes to keep up with the requests of its members. Firstly we have added a few items such as mens dress shirts made of a micro-fibre material that is wash and wear(NO Ironing for you men) and a ladies dress shirt and ladies t-shirt.
Also we have finally got the new CAV challenge coin. Make sure you get yours as you wouldn't want to be challenged without one. They are not serialized and have an area on the back to engrave what you would like on. Example would be your unit and road name or road name and joining date. It is your choice.
These items have been added to the kitshop website so have a look and get your orders in.
The bad news is that the economy has finally caught up to kitshop. Shipping costs have skyrocketed. With this in mind, there will be a 5 dollar flat fee added to all online orders to cover the cost of shipping. So if you plan on doing a few orders it would be better to combine to save on shipping.
Also coming soon will be info on a new CAV jacket. The response at the 1 CAV/Vimy Bike show was great and when the details are finalized I will be posting the info.

Outreach to MODERN VETERANS
My name is Rosanne Dornan. I am a military wife of a dying ‘Modern Veteran’ and a mother of a youngOfficer Cadet. I am working with a documentary film maker named Geoff Bowie (Elan Productions www.elanfilms.com). Geoff, who has made several episodes of the CBC series “The Nature of Things with David Suzuki”, has asked me to help him with his newest project. This is his message: "Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with some ‘Modern Veterans’ and their families. These families have openly shared their accounts of their experiences after they have returned home from deployments to Bosnia and Afghanistan. Their experiences, some good, some bad, have inspired me to develop a documentary based on their stories. I feel that Canadians need to know what happens after these brave men and women return home. What this documentary will be:
A focus on the ‘Modern’ Veteran; Veterans who have served on deployment or in theatre since 1990. This would include, but is not exclusive to the Persian Gulf, former Yugoslavia, Bosnia, Croatia or Afghanistan. A true account of what happens after veterans return home to Canada. Stories of what kind of help is available for any injuries or illnesses that may have occurred from their deployment. Is our Government doing enough? Are they getting sufficient physical, psychological and financial support? What has been beneficial and what has not worked. Personal accounts of dealings with Veterans Affairs Canada or other Governmental agencies in obtaining support and care. Personal opinions of what needs to be changed or what is actually working.I’d like those that have experienced this firsthand to help me tell a factual, compassionate account of what they truly deal with after a deployment. We know the Canadian public supports Canadian troops. What Canadians are not seeing enough of is what they go through adjusting being back at home. Please be assured that our goal is not to raise complaints or issues with the Military generally or the Department of National Defence. We would like to focus on the struggles and the help/support that these Veterans are, or are not, finding when they return to Canada and how this has been beneficial or detrimental to that adjustment.
This is a story that needs to be told with empathy, dignity and candor. We think a documentary focusing specifically on this issue may help to bring about real change and improve the services that are available for the benefit of all Veterans. Know that all information will be held in strict confidence until you give written permission that your particular story can be included in our documentary or on a website dedicated to the project.
If you or your family members would like to get involved in this important story, please contact me, Geoff Bowie, by email gbowie@rogers.com or by phone 416-531-8213 or fax 416-531-3295. You can also contact Rosanne Dornan, wife of a dying Veteran and Military mother who is closely involved in the project. She can be reached by e-mail at rosannedornan@gmail.com
